Lenovo ET960

The Lenovo ET960 is the newest GSM/GPRS Pocket PC available, and offers a raft of impressive features. Most computer users have probably heard about Lenovo, most recently when it acquired IMB’s personal computer division. According to the technical specifications, it is a direct competitor of my favourite gadget and primary pocket companion, MDA Compact. Let’s see whether Lenovo can beat the MDA Compact in the future.

Even if it is not the air, if at first sight, there are a lot of accessories and other interesting article in the box. The manufacturer has included a checklist for quick start:

  • Lenovo ET960
  • 2x standard battery
  • travel AC adapter
  • Miniature AC adapter
  • Mini USB cable
  • Power/USB cable adapter
  • Case
  • 2x stylus
  • headset
  • display foil
  • microfibre display cleaning cloth
  • CD-ROM
  • Use guide
  • This checklist;)

There is quite a lot and I cannot think of what more to expect. Perhaps a cradle would make the list yet more complete but it is not so significant in a Phone Edition device. As usual, we will leave the PDA to a later time and take a look first at the accessories. Two batteries in the package are luxury I would love to see become a standard – a spare battery may cost you as much as a hundred bucks or more, so its inclusion is to be welcome by every user. Add an elegant, compact travel AC adapter and sophisticated system of cables and you will never stay without power for long.

Lenovo ET960Take a look at the images below to get a better of the solution before we proceed to a more detailed description of the wiring. The travel AC adapter is tiny yet attached to a cable of sufficient length (150 cm). The standard MiniUSB synchronisation cable is not as long (120 cm). However, you can easily buy such a cable of any length you like. The travel adapter is just a little larger than the battery itself. It features a connector and a status LED. Bundled is a mains adapter with three types of plugs.
